Welcome to Creative Country: an interactive map of creative destinations and directory of artists living and practicing in Outback NSW.
Creative Country NSW celebrates the vibrant arts, culture and creative industries of Outback NSW. The arts have the power to connect people across geographic, social and cultural boundaries, playing a vital role in education, health, wellbeing, identity and community inclusion throughout regional New South Wales. Creative Country works with artists, creative practitioners, community organisations, businesses and government to support, promote and advocate for the arts and creative industries across the region. Together, we share a vision for a rich, diverse and thriving cultural landscape where creativity strengthens communities, drives cultural tourism and contributes to a resilient regional economy.
In Creative Country, the arts are essential to building engaged, responsive and connected communities. Through creative experiences, cultural events, public art, workshops and local storytelling, we showcase the unique character and creativity of Outback NSW. Creative Country is presented by Outback Arts, the Regional Arts Development Organisation serving the local government areas of Bourke, Brewarrina, Bogan, Cobar, Coonamble, Walgett and Warren. These communities sit within the heart of Outback NSW, where vast open plains, iconic river systems and rich cultural heritage create a distinctive destination for visitors and residents alike.
Known as the place where the Outback begins, the region offers authentic cultural experiences, contemporary arts, Aboriginal cultural heritage, festivals, galleries, creative workshops and community events that contribute to a growing cultural tourism sector in Western NSW. This website is presented by Outback Arts and supported through Regional Arts Australia's Tourism Generator Fund and Create NSW's RESTART initiative, helping to strengthen cultural tourism and increase visibility for arts, culture and creative experiences across Outback NSW.
